Is SEO right for me, what are the REAL advantages?
Every day the environment on the internet becomes more and more competitive, as more website
owners realize the potential to increase their traffic and business by using SEO. Results
speak for themselves, and consistently companies that use SEO professionals gain better
exposure, and increased traffic and business, than those that do not.
Regardless of the type of business you are in, there is almost an expectation now that you will
have a web presence. Whether you are a tour operator or a dentist, a carpenter or a halibut
charter captain, people are actively searching for your services online RIGHT NOW. IF you are
at the top of the search results pages these potential customers will be brought to your
website... it's as if they walked into the door of your business. If you are not at the top,
someone else is, and its likely a competitor. All those potential clients are being led to his
store instead. He gets a chance to sell them his products or services before they even know
your company existed.
What is the ROI for SEO, an example from one of our clients.
Depending on the type of business you are in the ROI can be HUGE. I would like to tell you the
story of one of our clients, who runs a screen repair business in Florida.
Being more of a blue collar guy, he was pretty reluctant to spend what he thought was a large sum of
money on a basic internet website and additional money monthly for marketing. His company had never
been online in the past, and he relied on yellow page listings and word of mouth to drive new customers
to his business. Frankly when he looked at the numbers, he saw that web design and SEO was far more
expensive than a phone book listing, and therefore never considered it an option.
Unfortunately in the down economy his business took a downturn as many did. People in Florida were
paying less attention to pools and patio enclosures when their mortgage payments were do, and they
were worried about their job. There was still business out there, it was just much slower than he
had experienced in the past. Knowing that something needed to change, he rethought the internet,
especially after a few clients had asked him for his website address and he did not have one to give.
Desperate for a change, he took the plunge. We setup a very basic website with contact information and
a small "internet discount coupon" to help him track where the business was coming from. We then
marketed his website heavily until it ranked at or near the top for a number of relevant search terms.
Three months later we called to talk to him. He told us that his phone had been ringing off the hook,
and almost all of the new business was coming from the website. All these new callers were mentioning
the coupon. He told us he was actually on the verge of turning down some jobs because he did not have
enough qualified installers to perform all the work he was being offered. He had not taken a single
day off in the past 3 weeks, and told us "he was not dumb enough to leave money on the table."
Our client said that he had been meaning to call us, but that he had been too busy with all the work
from the website. He estimated that our internet marketing had already paid for itself 10 fold, and
he was AMAZED at how many people "looked for a screen repair man online."
I think that he summed it up best when he said "I feel so stupid for not doing this years ago, what
a difference."
We continue to work with this client to help him maintain the high search rankings and high traffic
that is pushing his business towards it best year ever... amazingly during a recession. We speculate
with him about what may happen for his business next summer if the economy has turned around.
Experiences like this one represent the best possible outcome, but even websites with a less dramatic
outcome will benefit greatly. We strive to do right for your business, and we work hard to get you
the maximum benefit for your SEO investment.
